When it comes to space, I'm still a kid. Everything about it fascinates me.

Incalculable numbers
At unfathomable distances
Glitter and blink above me
Like a sequinned blanket

And all the while there's me
Alone on an empty road
No street lamps here
No hum of traffic

Just the sound of my feet
And the draw of my breath
And the heavens open up
Their magnificence for me alone

And there is a satellite
Cutting its path across the firmament
Signals and data all invisible
But I know it's there

And a full moon is rising
From over my horizon
Bringing a light so bright
It's casting sharpened shadows

And I think of the people
Working up there in space
Building a future
And running their experiments

And of rovers on Mars
They're drilling and tasting
And sending back pictures
Like the desert in Morocco

And only this week
We saw the launch of Falcon Heavy
With its cargo of Starman
Inside a Tesla Roadster

The draw and the pull of space
Its influence like a magnet
Like a mountain that's there and says
It's time you come and climbed me

And I think I'm kinda lucky
To be living in the space age
Seeing all these things
And feeling full of wonder

Remembering Apollo
And the men on the moon
The Eagle has landed
And what that giant leap meant

And here I still am
Walking down this dark road
Looking above me
With a crick in my neck

And wondering now
Where all this is heading
While all I am doing
Is walking to the pub
